Our Minister's Message

The greater our awareness of intentions, the greater our freedom to choose.

Minister's Musings

July 2008

Sometimes I have come back from our Unity International People’s Conference filled with so many great new ideas that I can hardly contain my energy. This time it feels different for me. Maybe it’s because I’m midway through the Field Licensing Program and in the midst of processing all the information I’ve taken in the last three years, but I came back from this Conference a little less hyped and a little more thoughtful. I’ve especially been thinking about our Unity movement’s vision of “Thriving Ministries” which was unveiled in Phoenix. I am wondering what it would look like for Unity Spiritual Life Center in Yakima to become a thriving ministry.

What would it be like? Here’s a paragraph from the vision statement we were given: “Consider what it would be like to participate in a center that is so clear about who and what it has come here to be, that the majority of the community are in active roles of bringing forth the shared vision of their future together. Not only are people involved, they are learning, growing, and transforming. And because of this, there is a welcoming spirit that goes beyond attraction—one that brings first-timers face to face with the mirror of their own divinity.”

As I read this, I feel the energy rising in me, partly because we are already doing some of what this vision describes and partly because I can hardly wait to see how we will continue to thrive and grow. Is this an “ego” thing—wanting to grow? It can be. But if each of us thinks about how wonderful it was to discover a spiritual community that gave us the freedom to ask questions, think for ourselves, and experience the Divine Energy of who we are, how can we keep that to ourselves? Unity’s message is too good not to share!

July is my anniversary month as your spiritual leader. It’s hard to believe I’ve already been here three years! Thank you for allowing me to walk beside you on our spiritual journey. Thank you for supporting my growth as your minister, not only through prayer but through your financial commitment to my educational program. Most of all, thank you for the love that keeps us all going. You are God’s Love expressing, and I am grateful. Thank you, God!

Peace, Cheryl

When we grow in spiritual consciousness, we identify with all that is in the world -- there is no exploitation. It is ourselves we're helping, ourselves we're healing.
